Duncanville Arts Foundation Highlights Mayor’s Recognition of the Arts in the 2025 State of the City Address

January 22, 2026 (Duncanville, TX) — In the City of Duncanville’s 2025 State of the City address, Mayor Greg Contreras underscored the significant role that arts and culture play in strengthening community, boosting local identity, and enhancing quality of life for residents. Mayor Contreras’s remarks affirm the growing recognition among City leadership that investment in the arts is a vital part of Duncanville’s future.

Reflecting on the year’s progress, the Mayor highlighted how arts initiatives contribute to community cohesion, civic pride, and economic vitality — aligning closely with the Duncanville Arts Foundation’s mission to expand opportunities for artistic engagement, support local creatives, and build cultural infrastructure that benefits residents across all neighborhoods.

The State of the City address also coincides with the City’s recent approval of its inaugural Arts Grants program, which saw a range of local artists and cultural projects receive funding to bring creative experiences to life throughout Duncanville. These awards — backed by City Council action — reflect a broader investment in creativity that dovetails with the Foundation’s goals to grow participation and ensure equitable access to the arts.

“We’re proud to see the Mayor recognize what many in our community already know: that the arts matter,” said Ron Thompson, Founding Executive Director of the Duncanville Arts Foundation. “This affirmation from City leadership helps set the stage for deeper partnerships, stronger civic engagement, and a richer cultural landscape for every resident.”
